It is easy to forget that you are walking into a doctor’s office when you enter Dr. John Mytych’s new podiatry practice. The warm smiles and friendly greetings makes you feel like you are walking into a family home. But as soon as you see the state of the art equipment in the exam rooms you know you are in a professional’s office.

Dr. Mytych designed Kane Podiatry Associates with quality and technology in mind. The medical equipment he incorporated includes the most cutting edge digital imaging technology available. Mytych says, “The digitized x-ray image allows me to view the images on a 27″ monitor in the the exam room with patients in a few minutes. Additionally, just like a digital camera image, the x-ray image can be darkened, lightened or enlarged to better view all parts of an image” Digital imaging has revolutionized X-ray technology and given private physicians the freedom and confidence to evaluate the most minute details of an X-ray. “The technology also interfaces well with our paperless electronic medical records” adds Dr. Mytych.

Dr. Mytych specializes in treating all the common foot ailments people seek a podiatrist for, including heel pain, tendonitis, bunions, ingrown nails and diabetic foot care. Being an avid soccer fan and athlete himself, Dr. Mytych has a special interest in sports injuries. Also in the office, one of the Podiatric Medical Assistants, Stephanie, is an avid runner with five marathons under her belt. Thus, there is a combined interest throughout the office in keeping people active.

Dr. Mytych attributes many of his success stories with his athletic patient’s foot and ankle complaints with the treatment of orthotics. Orthotics are shoe inserts that are intended to correct an abnormal, or irregular, walking or running pattern. Orthotics are not “arch supports”. Instead a plaster mold is taken of the foot and the doctor assesses the foot to create a perfectly angled insert to be placed inside the shoe. “Orthotics make standing, walking, and running more comfortable by slightly altering the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface,” he says. They can be made to fit in all styles of shoes, from dress to work boots to running shoes.

Diabetics have a tendency to develop more foot problems related to their disease. Due to circulation problems or nerve damage, they usually are referred to a podiatrist for foot ulcers. One program that Dr. Mytych recommends to his diabetic patients is the Medicare Diabetic Shoe Bill. Anyone with diabetes who is covered by Medicare is eligible for assistance under this bill. According to a Medicare study, twenty-five percent of diabetic patients develop foot problems related to the disease. Recognizing this problem, Congress approved the Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill; helping thousands of people with diabetes obtain protective footwear and inserts. New medical footwear may help prevent lower-limb ulcers and amputation common in people with diabetes. Ultimately, the Shoe Bill prevents suffering and saves money. Due to the fact that many patients with foot problems cannot find comfortable shoes in regular retail stores, Kane Podiatry also provides a selection of footwear in assorted styles that are designed to provide the comfort and support that diabetic patients and other patients with foot disorders often require.

Dr. Mytych is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatry Surgery. He performs most of his outpatient surgery at Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center in St. Charles. He is a member of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. For patients requiring hospitalization, he is a medical staff member at Delnor Hospital.

Kane Podiatry is located at 2172 Blackberry Drive, Suite 112 in Geneva and is currently taking new patients. Call 630-232-9000 for an appointment.
